Steam's default keyboard controls are very hard to use IMO, so if you're using the keyboard I'd suggest trying something like 'a' and 's' instead of '.

Even if your pc's great, if the game is running at, say, 60.3 fps instead of 60.0, the physics will be subtly screwed up. This is also the fix for 7-19x problems.
